Learning Log 7

In the Romeo and Juliet performance, I have learnt of how to cooperate and coordinate well as a group to be able to perform it to its best. This performance has better improved the friendship between us classmates which could also help in our future group works or projects. I personally felt that we could put in more effort into the performance, such as preparing better props and more rehearsals to ensure no mistakes in the performance. We could have also made more improvements to our props. In this performance, we encounter problems like forgetting our lines and forgetting where to head to next. Although I think if given more time, we could have performed this play better and with lesser mistakes.

Learning Log 6

Literary devices can be found in everything that we read, from the storybooks we are engrossed in and to the newspapers we read eveyday. There are many types of literary devices, like sound devices and imagery anf figurative language devices. Literary devices comes in two forms, the basic and the advance, in which the advance having more complex and difficult devices. The more common literary devices which can be seen are symbol and simile, while the more uncommon literary devices are paradox and oxymoron. If you pay more attention in the articles you read daily, you would find out that literary devices can be found all over it. At first glance of the literary devices, you might think that it would be a extremely difficult, but if you get a chance to understand its meaning, you would know that it is actually a easy concept.

Learning Log 5

After reading ''The Unseen'' worksheet, I have learnt the techniques on how to deal with them. When approaching the unseen poem, we have to read through it twice. The first time is to read through without stopping and the second to pck up words or phrases that are difficult or interesting.

When answering questions based on the unseen poem, we have to read it carefully and use our own words whenever possible. Also we should not rush through the poem or make general statements without explaining why. To organise your answer, there are two effective techniques. One is the IBC (Introduction, Body, Conclusion) and the other is the PEEL (Point, Explain and Elaborate, Evidence and Example, Link), both which can be helpful in the organisation of the answer.

The quoting of words or phrases is common in the questions given in the unseen poem. It may be a long quotation or short quotation but the insertion of inverted commas is important. In quoting, there is also a type of method to answer it, which is through the ABC (Attention, Brief, Context).

It may seem as if the answering of the unseen is difficult, but in actual fact, if the correct methods and precautions are taken, you might find it different form what you think.

Learning Log 4

Through the three performance, I have learnt that to be able to play the part of the witch well is not a simple task. It requires great amounts of skill and courage to be able to play the part, and also lots of preparation is needed. This includes the props which are to be used in the performance and the audio which some may require. Lots and lots of practices are needed so that we would be able to play the part well on the day of performance. Also, this practices may also help in getting the tune of our voices right so that we would know which is better in displaying the part of the witch.

I would like to commend on the good work of group 6. The members in that group had displayed the voices of the witch the best and to top it off, were loud and clear. Their props were sufficient and good, plus they also made use of makeup. I would like to say that the performance done by my group was okay except that we said our lines too slowly and so the audio by my group could not catch up. I think that my group has quite a number of improvements to work on like the audio and could maybe get more props.

Learning Log 3

Act 1 scene 1, the Three witches, is a short play involving three witches as they prepare to meet Macbeth. This play is going to be played by everyone in our class and it is not going to be easy. Each and everyone in our class is going to be formed into groups of three, as the number of witches, and are going to play out the whole Act 1 scene 1 as a group. This play may be short and easy to memorise but, to play it out with voices which may seem to sound like the witches is the hard part. It is not easy to voice out the whole play in front of all our classmates especially since we are going to sound weird.

Act 1 scene 2, talks about a captain on the battlefield reporting to Duncan, Scotland's king , about the Thane of Cawdor leding an insurrection. After Duncan's soldier put down the rebellion, Duncan condemns the leader to immediate execution. In a battlefield promotion, Duncan plans to evelate Macbeth to Thane of Cawdor. This play is a long four paged play with a original text which is extremely hard to understand without the help of the modern text. The original text comes with difficult words and phrases, and not everyone is going to be able to understand it easily. Through the lessons, it has made the play easier to understand know the meanings o the difficult words and phrases.

The comic grid which consists of five or seven depending on how you want it to be, is supposed to show your undestanding on Act 1 scene 2. The comic grid is to be a summary of Act 1 scene 2 through pictures or drawings. Through the discussions in our groups, I have seen the various ways used to summarise Act 1 scene 2. This may seem easy and require little time, but to be able to score high marks require good drawing skills which many lack.

Learning Log 2

Act 1, Scene 1, the Three Witches is a play which introduces the three witches to the audience as they prepare to meet Macbeth. This play maybe short, but after I saw how my classmates played the scene, the Three Witches, my opinion changed. To be able to play the scene well, a lot of courage and right voice projection is needed. A great change of voice is needed so that it would sound like it was the witches who said it and not you. Also, to be able to face a crowd of people while acting with a strange voice would make even a extremely courageous person shy too. As seen from my classmates, I can see that they had put their heart into the whole play so as to make it a good one and that it was not easy for them.

A superstition is a belief that some objects or actions are lucky or unlucky, or that they cause events to happen, based on old ideas passed down from generation to generation. Superstitions may be about things that we do every day to supernatural things like aliens or ghost. For instance, one of the most common superstitions would be that breaking a mirror would bring 7 years of bad luck as a mirror was thought to be a reflection of the soul and breaking it is harmful to the soul. Another common superstition would be that if a black cat crosses a person's path, try not to follow it as the person will then take the same path as the cat and bad luck will then follow. From the presentation done from my classmates, I can say that they are a wide range of superstitions that are believe by many and that it is up to you to decide whether to believe it or not.

Learning Log 1

A cinquain is a five-line poem in which the word is derived from the French word cinq, which means five. Each line of a cinquain follow a rule and you can choose whatever topic you like to write about. For line 1, we are suppose to write a title of only one word. In line 2, it requires us to write the description of the topic chosen by using two words and a comma is needed in between the words. For line 3, the action of the topic should be written by using three words and the three words should end with an 'ing' with a comma in between each of them. In line 4, we are suppose to write about our feelings of the topic with four words. Finally, for the fifth line, a one word reflection of the title is to be written.
From the lesson, I have learn that in order to write a good cinquain, a lot of concentration is needed in order to do so and a lot of thinking is needed at the same time. I think that there should be more lessons about cinquain so that everyone can have a better understanding of the topic.
